Currently, the National Park Service offers 29 different Artist-in-Residence programs in 25 states. For this final off-grid residency profile, Joshua Tree National Park AIR program was chosen to represent these somewhat obscure, and possibly underutilized, federal resources.


THE LAND/an art site

THE LAND/an art site is the fourth in a series of Site/Project Profiles that present off-grid, hyper-isolated residencies. Founded in 1998, this residency maintains an outdoor work/exhibition site in the Manzano Mountains of central New Mexico devoted exclusively to site-specific, environmentally low-impact, land-based art.


PLAND

PLAND (Practice Liberating Art through Necessary Dislocation) is the third in a series of Site/Project Profiles that present off-grid, hyper-isolated residencies. In 2011, PLAND will launch “The Summer of Alternative Power,” which include programs that propose alternative models to the mainstream systems of power; electricity, water, currency and production.



Andes Sprouts Society

Andes Sprouts Society is the second in a series of Site/Project Profiles that present off-grid, hyper-isolated residencies. Andes Sprouts Society offers 2 day to one month residencies to individuals integrating media, art, technology and farming. Applications for summer 2011 are due April, 15th.
