Using the recently published anthology Avant-Garde Museology as its launching point, the symposium “Avant Museology” began its two–city, two–weekend run on November 11th and 12th at the Brooklyn Museum. The expansive conference of thirteen rigorous and engaging presentations considered early Soviet attempts to use museums to craft a “better, more evolved human being” by making them more reflective of all aspects of life, in content and form.
