To Make a Public: Good Weather
On December 12th, we gathered at Good Weather in North Little Rock for a public conversation around the launch of To Make a Public to ask: What does it mean to make a public? How do publications work within and alongside social movements? How are artists defining, building and protecting the public sphere?
Moderated by Good Weather founder (and To Make a Public designer) Haynes Riley, the discussion included local artists Layet Johnson and Omaya Jones (Deshaun), and Tara Stickley, Editor-in-Chief of The Forgetory, to highlight Little Rock’s rich history of zine-making (particularly rooted in the 90s punk scene) and local native Nate Powell’s recent National Book Award for his graphic novel MARCH with Congressman John Lewis.
We are pleased to now share that conversation as recorded by Deshaun for podcast and available on SoundCloud and iTunes.
