Won’t Be a Ghost

Scene 8

LAMO
Ok, back. Two back-to-back calls

MANNING
I’m armed… 😉 so I’m ready for whoever you called

LAMO
ha ha. Or was that serious paranoia?

MANNING
Would I be communicating with you if I were that paranoid?

LAMO
Hey, people are strange. Why talk to me?

MANNING
Because I’m isolated as fuck… my life is falling apart. Gender Identity Disorder… discharge… family issues… and possibility of transition in near future.

LAMO
but you make a cute boy! ;>

MANNING
I’m not comfortable with myself. I’m uncomfortable with my role in society in particular… I spend a lot of time thinking of transitioning… I went on leave in late January / early February… and… I cross-dressed, full on… wig, breastforms, dress, the works… i had crossdressed before… but I was public… for a few days. The first thing I learned was that chivalry isn’t dead… men would walk out of their way and open doors for me… it was so weird.

LAMO
Awww.

MANNING
I was referred to as “Ma’am” or “Miss.” I even took the Acela from DC to Boston… I rode the train, dressed in a casual business outfit. I really enjoyed the trip… minus the conductor. As he asked for my ID, and clipped my ticket… he made a fuss.

LAMO
That sucks.

MANNING
“Thank you, MISTER Manning…”

LAMO
Asshole. Him, not you.

MANNING
I know. It was… an experience I won’t forget…
