How is the project operated?
Tiger Strikes Asteroid (TSA) functions as an artist-run, not-for-profit space. It is funded and operated by the artist members and through fundraising activities.
_
How long has it been in existence?
Since 2009.
_
What was your motivation?
The misson of TSA, as outlined by the founding membership and founding director, Alex Paik, is to connect the Philadelphia art scene to the global art community by showing the work of emerging artists from Philadelphia as well as other cities.  TSA doesn’t rely on a commercial structure to run the space which allow us keep our programming open and experimental.
_
Number of organizers/responsible persons of the project.
We have a cap of 10 members. At times it is less, but usually no more.
_
How are programs funded?
Most programming is member funded. We collect fees from members monthly, and occasionally hold fundraisers to help with keeping the gallery maintenance or special exhibits.
_
Who is responsible for the programming?
The programming is run by the members. Each member curates a month that is scheduled ahead of time. At that point they have the freedom to curate the work themselves, or bring in an outside curator. The artists may show their own work if they wish. Generally, during November and December the membership agrees upon a curator outside the membership to develop an exhibition.
_
Number and average duration of exhibitions/events per year.
TSA hosts 11 exhibitions per year.
_
What kind of events are usually organized?
Events may include, opening receptions, artist talks, performances. The scope of our programing is not set and varies based on the needs or goals of each exhibition.
_
How is your programming determined?
Programming is determined by the membership, with each member having the having control over one month of the year.
_
Do you accept proposals/submissions?
We are always open to proposals and submissions. The best way to communicate your proposal or submission is to communicate with one of the members directly.
_
What is your artistic/curatorial approach?
TSA is very loose in our approach to curating. Members are asked to join based on their past work, ambitions, and we value what they can bring to this alternative space.
_
What kind of role do you hope to play in your local art scene or community?
As part of the local art scene we hope to bring emerging artists from all over the world to add to the cultural scene in Philadelphia.
_
What idea are you most excited about for the future?
Continuing to host great exhibitions.
