SOTA object information – Lenka Clayton

Hi Melanie,

I attach here a couple of images of the pieces. I’m not that happy with the 63 Objects From My Son’s Mouth image. Will you be reshooting works in situ for the catalog? If not I could reshoot this piece and send it to you.

Many thanks.

Hi Lenka,

Well, the question of reshooting objects is what we are trying to currently figure out. The date we need the images by for the catalog is not matching our shipping schedule. We are trying to avoid having to hire photographers to reshoot objects as much as possible since this would need to happen at everyone’s location. It would be great if you could reshoot and get an image that you really like. Let me know when you think you could or if you can reshoot it.

Thanks,

Melanie

Hi Lenka,

My flight has been canceled and I will not be getting in to Pittsburgh until tomorrow night. I was wondering if you would be able to reschedule for Wednesday morning? So sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

Hi Lenka,

After fighting with airlines and trying to get on any available flight with no luck, it looks like I will not be coming to Pittsburgh this week after all. Due to the amount of trips I am taking, it looks like I will not be able to get to Pittsburgh again until July. Would I be able to visit you the week of July 7th? Once I get in touch with all of the Pittsburgh artists about that week and make sure it works, I can confirm a specific day that week. If you have a preference of day of the week, though, feel free to let me know. So sorry for the late notice, but I look forward to hopefully seeing you in July.

Oh dear. I imagine you have been having a bad day, hope you are ok. I’m planning a trip to England this summer and haven’t worked out exactly when. I’ll try to make it not coincide with that week. Should have firm plans in a week or so and will let you know.

Best,

Lenka

Sounds great, just let me know when you know for sure about that week.

Thanks.

Hello Lenka,

Thank you for your thoughtful email. We have given your thoughts serious consideration, and decided that you are right—the work is best served by a projection.

Did you settle on a projection situation that would work best? I will reply to Matt Franklin’s latest email to finalize those details.

Thank you for your ongoing efforts to work with us. We’re so excited about featuring your work.

Warm regards,

Chad

Hi Lenka,

Crystal Bridges Communications Dept.

We’re pleased to know that you’ll be participating in our upcoming exhibition State of the Art, and look forward to working with you. As Alison Demorotski mentioned in previous emails, we appreciate you keep your involvement with the exhibition confidential as we finalize our planning phase. Over the course of the next few months, as details are finalized, I’ll be back in touch with information on how we’ll be promoting the exhibition and ways that you can support and/or join in the promotional efforts. I’ll be your key contact for any “communications” related information —please feel free to contact me anytime.

As a next step, there are a few items with which we’d appreciate your help as soon as possible.

  1. I’ve attached a video release form.Your signature on this will allow us to possibly share short segments of the video footage Don and/or Chad took when they visited you. These segments would only be shared for education and exhibition promotion purposes, edited for the most relevant content. Please sign and return the attached form—you can sign and either mail or email it back to my attention.
  2. We are currently working on a catalog about the exhibition highlighting each of the artists involved. Our goal is for the catalog to be available when the exhibition debuts on Sept. 13, as it will provide a key resource and overview of the exhibition. In it, our curators will offer some comments about your work, and we’ll show an image of your artwork as well as the label information (title, medium, year, etc.). Alongside this information, we’ll include an edited quote or two from Don or Chad’s conversation with you. We would also like to include:
  3. Your date of birth and, possibly, the place. You can simply reply with them noted here: Place of birth: Date:
  4. An image of you. Since we can’t possibly visit each artist and take similar photos, we’d like you to take a “selfie”. Through this, every artist in the exhibition will be represented via a small self-portrait. This can be done with your cell phone (or friend’s or family member’s phone). For consistency, a few guidelines: please take a vertical shot of yourself, head and shoulders only, with your phone held at arms-length away from you. Please do not take a photo into a mirror, and please don’t use any filters or effects. Email it directly to me at the largest file size offered on your phone.
  5. Due to tight deadlines to produce this prior to the exhibition debut, we need your “selfie” and info ASAP. We’ll provide you with a complimentary copy of the catalog once the exhibition opens, and we much appreciate your help.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and our team looks forward to working with you on this exciting exhibition!

Best regards,

Diane Carroll

Hello all,

We are looking to project Lenka’s work with a standard throw projector which will be mounted from the ceiling. Let’s go ahead and anticipate that speakers will be necessary (internal projectors speakers are ofen tinny), though the footprint of the room will be quite manageable—say, 10 x 15 feet. Hope this helps. Matt, could you provide some guidance to Lenka on these items?

Thank you!

Let me know if you have questions.

Hi Matt,

Thanks in advance for your help. If you could recommend a specifc projector (as Chad outlined below) for my film as well as a speaker set up, media player and cables etc. I’d be ever so grateful. Just as a reminder -my video is a dv ntsc digital file that will need to be looped. It has low ambient sound. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Many thanks!

Hi Diane,

Here’s a pic. I was born in 1977 in England. I will have the other catalog images (of the artwork) next week, they’re just being processed.

Following up here. Matt, I’m not sure if you and Lenka have had a conversation about equipment. For my purposes, could we have a suggested equipment list for installation of the video work?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Lenka,

I was wondering how the reshoot was going. I have forgotten what you said the time frame was. We have until the week of June 16. Let me know if there are any issues. Don and Chad would actually like to see a couple of screen shots from the film to look at as possibilities for use. Let me know if you can send these or not.

Thanks,

Hi Melanie,

Great and timely to hear from you. I have new images and am retouching them right now. I hope to have them to you for review by tomorrow. I can also certainly send along some video stills tomorrow too. Did you also want images of other work, or just the two pieces in the exhibition?

Thanks for checking in.

All the best,

Lenka

Hi Lenka,

Just the two pieces in the exhibition. Looking forward to seeing the images. Will be in touch soon about shipping.

Hi Melanie,

Here are the images from 63 objects. The photographer for these is Tom Little, please credit him. I have all the images from the large grid available individually if that makes more sense for the layout, just let me know and i’ll send them on. The video stills for Don & Chad are also attached.

Thank-you for your patience. Please let me know if you need anything more.

All the best,

Lenka
