How is the project operated?
Sisters Academy is a school in a world and society where the sensuous and poetic mode of being is at the center of all action and interaction. The project is founded by Sisters Hope. Sisters Hope is a Copenhagen-based performance-group and movement with an international troupe of performers from various backgrounds. Sisters Hope operate in the intersection of performance art, research, activism and pedagogy.

How long has it been in existence?
Sisters Hope was founded in 2007 by Gry Worre Hallberg and Anna Lawaetz and is currently led by Gry Worre Hallberg.

What was your motivation?
The project is rooted in an intention to democratize the aesthetic dimension

Number of organizers/responsible persons of the project.
The core consists of 2-3 people. A varying number of contributors, collaborators and fellow movers join each manifestation to realize the project.

How are programs funded?
Sisters Academy is project-funded.

Who is responsible for the programming?
Gry Worre Hallberg, co-founder and artistic director in dialogue with the Sisters Academy staff.

Number and average duration of exhibitions/events per year.
On average we create two large-scale manifestations a year. The duration is 24/7 for 14-30 days depending on the format. In-between the larger manifestations we present our work (through talks, workshops and beyond) in different contexts approximately 15 times a year.

What kind of events are usually organized?
Performance-installations and interventions. Sisters Academy mainly unfolds through two large-scale formats; The Takeover and The Boarding School. In The Takeover we take over the leadership of actual upper secondary schools. We transform the school completely through in an immersive landscape of light-, sound- and set-design to explore new more sensuous and poetic modes of learning. In The Boarding School we create a boarding school as a large-scale immersive performance-installation where everyone with interest in the agenda can enroll as students to explore new modes of sensuous learning.

Do you accept proposals/submissions?
Yes. We invite visiting researchers/teachers/artists to conduct a residency within the framework of Sisters Academy.

What is your artistic/curatorial approach?
To open and democratize the sensuous and poetic through immersive and interactive performance-strategies.

What kind of role do you hope to play in your local art scene or community?
We hope to inspire and provide tools to open sensuous and poetic modes of being and being together.

What idea are you most excited about for the future?
A dream to open a center or institute to continuously explore the sensuous and poetic in-between manifestations.
