How is the project operated?
Practice’s governing body is composed of a group of artists and art workers who produce or do not produce art works in a variety of mediums both physical and metaphysical. Jerry Kaba, Ryan KellyPeter Morgan, Dave KyuYvonne Lung, and Annette Monnier meet each month to decide how best to govern and curate the space. Each exhibition is determined by a democratic consensus.

How long has it been in existence?
Since August 2012

What was your motivation?
To show art that is different from art shown in other art spaces around town.

Number of organizers/responsible persons of the project.
6 people.

How are programs funded?
Every month we each pitch in $20 on top of rent. In November of 2012 we had a fundraising exhibition, and since it was pretty successful, we decided that it will become an annual exhibition to fund the space.

Who is responsible for the programming?
Aside from our monthly meetings, we have EPIC meetings every few months to plan our programming. Exhibition ides/artists are entered into a google doc in advance of the meeting, and then we discuss and vote during the EPIC meeting. Sometimes if we feel an idea is good but requires more development, we will work as a group to make that happen.

Number and average duration of exhibitions/events per year.
12 exhibitions per year, 1 per month.

What kind of events are usually organized?
There is the usual First Friday that acts as the opening reception each month. Events depend on the exhibition, but lectures, sleep overs, support groups, and debates are some possibilities.

How is your programming determined?
Please see answer to “Who is responsible for the programming?”

Do you accept proposals/submissions?
Yes, but it goes through the same process mentioned above.

What is your artistic/curatorial approach?
Our gallery practice seeks to support artist practices that focus on performance, participation and experimentation.

What’s working? What’s not working?
We have never asked ourselves that question.

What kind of role do you hope to play in your local art scene or community?
To bring in art that is different from what other art spaces are showing.

What idea are you most excited about for the future?
As we plan out further into the exhibition seasons, we are able to bring in more ambitious projects.
