In an era marked by the spectacle of black death, manifested as the vision of lifeless black bodies in the media, knightworks made clear that its rite was not carved out of fear. Rather, it was a calling upon a source of strength and security in order to identify a way to move into the future.

Unstable States, New Constitutions
Over the course of 2017, we will pursue parallel narratives under the framework Unstable States, New Constitutions in our first long term feature. Through this itinerary we aim to study our increasingly global instability as a method of learning and unlearning the present and gather the constellations and speculative forms rising from this constant state of crisis. We ask: Can this unprecedented moment of dissolution also be an opportunity for rearticulation and rearrangement?
Starting December 2017, over the next several months we will engage the legacy of institutional critique, ongoing institutional and organizational experiments, and Gerald Raunig’s notion of ‘instituent practices’ understood as artistic and curatorial practices that “invent new forms of instituting.” Question include: How do artists and independent projects challenge, comply with, and sometimes imitate traditional institutional forms? Further, how should (self-initiated) organizations consider their own operational mechanisms in order to responsibly address the social, political and cultural fabric in which they operate? This feature has been developed in concert with recent work by Vessel (Bari, Italy) and from an interest to connect this predominantly European continental theory to institutional experimentation in the US and elsewhere.
